On Many Things
It's funny...the way God works. Amidst a clashing of views and endless debates on Facebook, I was so fed up and finally said, "Enough!" As a consequence, there will much more blogging for me. I've realized that announcing my views about everything to everyone at all times is not the best way to lead people to Christ. Shocking! I know. And, well...I just don't have the self-control right now to keep quiet about it there, so hopefully I'll have it here. I've found some verses to be helpful in my struggle with word abundance: Prov. 10:13&19, Rom. 14:10, and Eph. 4:29. Committing them to memory is really helping.
I noticed the last blog post here was last July. How sad! I guess life and busyness just caught up with me.
The previous topic was my commitment to changing my diet for the sake of my illness. Since then, Austin and I discovered the great expense that comes with eating the way The Gold Coast Cure requires. Although, after having practiced eating a different way altogether for several months last summer, our diet has changed considerably.
Perhaps this overall diet change has contributed to me feeling better. But I'll never know for sure. The neurologist has me on Gabapentin to manage my pain. Has it helped with the pain? Yes. Have I experienced side-effects? Unfortunately. Just weight gain. Ha!
This leads me to mention the Miller's plans for next year. We will try starting a family by the end of 2012 :0) Now this could be a physically painful year ahead for Connie. Unfortunately, the effects of my meds on pregnancy are not known. So the doctors will be experimenting with me over the next year, trying to find a safe medication. I'm not looking forward to withdrawals, but I know that God gives grace and mercy. So I will be calling on Him. A lot.
School is going well for us both. Austin finished his second year of medical school with flying colors. Now he's engulfed in a sea of study questions for Step 1 of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam, which he'll take on June 2, the day after his 27th birthday.
My classes are going well, too. I'm in the last week of my third class at the University of Phoenix. It's been a great challenge so far! I had no idea what to expect with distance learning, but I have learned very much! The GREAT thing about my degree time line and Austin's school is that we will (God willing) finish around the same time. Praise Him for that!
My daily routine as an at-home wife is fulfilling and busy. I'm occupied with housekeeping, cooking, grocery-shopping, bills, decorating, homework, gardening, exercise, and some EXCELLENT quiet time with God. Austin gets up early every morning and heads to his "Doctors in Training" program, comes home to study, naps, leads us in Bible study, takes Zooey to the park, and then we eat and work out together. It's really nice having the flexibility to dedicate to husband and home. I'm so thankful for my God-given role!
I'll be starting a separate blog soon of my personal musings and such. I hope to see you there! (Comments always welcome!)

Cooking Up a (Healthy) Storm!
I'm on a strictly whole foods cooking rant! Here are some samples of what I've been up to in the kitchen lately : )
I have consumed nothing but whole, unprocessed, unrefined foods for the last two weeks and intend to keep this up until death. It is quite delicious! My inspiration was the book titled "The Gold Coast Cure" by Ivy Ingram Larson and Andrew Larson, M.D. My mom gave this to me after last year's bout with eye inflammation. Now that the newest physical problems have arrived, I am changing my health with a vengeance. The separate cook book by the same authors is "Whole Foods Diet Cookbook." The majority of these concoctions is from this source. Austin also downloaded a Whole Foods Market recipe application for my iPhone which I can't wait to use! (FYI, so far Austin has REALLY enjoyed these dishes...and if you know Austin, you know what a picky eater he is! I count this as progress)
Meal #1:

[Garlicky Beans with Green Chiles and Tomatoes]

[Southwest Tofu Burgers]
Meal #2:

[Spinach Salad with Artichokes and Gorgonzola]

[Lime-Cooked Tilapia and Corn on the Cob with Parsley and Paprika Butter]
Meal #3:

[Crepe Filling]

[Crepes]

[Marinara Sauce...made from scratch! I also used fresh basil that I've been growing on our kitchen window...mmm!]

[The final product! Plus some baby greens, Barlean's flax seed and hemp oil with sea salt]

Cooking, Party-Planning, Great Friends, an Annoying Illness, and an Amazing God and Family

I think my title for this post pretty much sums up my life right now : )
Last week Lisa, Grandma Judy, and Scout came to Galveston! We had so much fun! A little summary of what we did:
~Ate at "Eatcetera" (an excellent restaurant! I give 5 stars)
~Took a Dolphin tour and saw a ridiculous number of the creatures
~Had some tasty cocktails and shrimp kisses at Willie G's
~Went shopping for a rug and A/C unit
~Installed an air-conditioning window unit--thanks to Maw-Maw, Paw-Paw, and Lisa
~Ate at Fisherman's Wharf
~Went shopping on the Strand
~Grandma enjoyed a gourmet Marlborough (or something like that ; ) while me, Lisa, and Scout, took a nice stroll along the tide pools on the seawall, enjoying some great conversation and Scouts rapid downfalls into unseen water ditches
~Grandma, Lisa, and Austin enjoyed some delectable pastries from the Sunflower Bakery while Connie ate fruit : /
~Went grocery shopping
~Me, Grandma, Lisa, and Scout, enjoyed the concoctions of the Raspa stand on the Seawall--they had hot dogs and raspas (mouth-watering!), while I downed fresh coconut juice...and a pickle. I have decided I don't like their pickles, but that Thai coconut was great!
~Rode scooters across the UTMB campus for a night tour guided by Austin
~Made the mandatory trip to the UTMB book store
~One night we traveled to the Island-famous Cafe Michael Burger. Amazing! As always.
Over all, we had the most relaxing, care-free time we could have asked for! (minus Austin's classes..bless his heart)
Now I'm in the midst of planning the tea party at my house this weekend, dealing with physical stuff, insurance, and all those great things...I'll just say that Austin and I have the most supportive and loving family that we could have ever hoped for. We love you all~
